Prevalence of tongue lesions in a population of Iranian schoolchildren in 2020

Background: The tongue is one of the most important organs in oral cavity, and its lesions are a health concern for healthcare providers patients. Limited epidemiological studies have evaluated children. present study aimed to evaluate prevalence various on population Iranian students. Methods: A total 2051 students, aged 7–12 years, were randomly selected from elementary schools Kerman using random cluster sampling method February 2020 June examination. subjects’ age, gender, identified recorded datasheets. data analyzed with SPSS software chi-square test t at significance level P<0.05. Results: Tongue 29.9% children, female children affected higher rate than male subjects. frequent lesion was coated tongue, affecting 19.3% subjects, followed by partial ankyloglossia (3.6%) fissured (3.1%). least bifid microglossia (0.1% each). No cases lingual thyroid study. Conclusion: relatively high frequency necessitating general dental practitioners’ knowledge awareness about etiology, diagnosis, management these lesions.
